IT Specialist (APPSW/OS/SYSADMIN)
This position is situated within the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). As a Senior IT Specialist, the incumbent serves as an enterprise endpoint architect responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and optimizing the Agency's endpoint management environment, while leading modernization efforts for desktops, laptops, and related endpoint platforms.
The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. Presence at the Alexandria, VA campus is required for this role, as it includes on site functions that must be performed in person. Position may be eligible for situational telework in accordance with agency policy/business unit discretion. The agency currently allows for 52 hours of telework per calendar year. We need your expertise if: You thrive as a senior technical expert and enterprise endpoint architect, planning, designing, modernizing, implementing, and optimizing the agency's endpoint management environment across a large-scale device fleet. You develop enterprise strategies, technical architectures, and technology roadmaps. You're energized by driving the development and implementation of secure, standardized, policy-driven, automated, and scalable endpoint operations, including provisioning, configuration management, security enforcement, compliance, remediation, lifecycle management, and increased automation. You're committed to establishing and sustaining enterprise endpoint security, compliance, and operational capabilities, leveraging telemetry, monitoring, analytics, and automation to identify trends and anomalies, support proactive remediation, improve service reliability, and enhance the user experience. Your expertise shines in leading integration and modernization efforts across endpoint, identity, cybersecurity, infrastructure, service management, and operational monitoring environments, providing authoritative technical guidance and collaborating with stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues and implement enterprise solutions. You're excited to evaluate emerging technologies and develop technical standards, requirements, implementation guidance, and acquisition documentation, working with business stakeholders, cybersecurity, contractors, vendors, and other technical organizations to advance enterprise endpoint capabilities and support modernization objectives.
Requirements
You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. OPM Qualifications Standards are available at Competency-Based Qualification Standard for the Information Technology Management Series, 2210. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service: For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-13. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience leading the planning, design, modernization, and implementation of enterprise IT solutions, including developing technology strategies, roadmaps, and implementation plans; AND Experience designing and implementing automated, policy-driven, and scalable IT operations, including automation, orchestration, provisioning, configuration management, compliance enforcement, telemetry, and proactive remediation; AND Experience evaluating emerging technologies and applying Federal and agency IT policies, cybersecurity requirements, enterprise architecture standards, and operational controls to develop secure, resilient, and compliant enterprise IT solutions; AND Experience leading cross-functional enterprise IT initiatives and participating in acquisition planning by developing technical requirements, statements of work, evaluating solutions, and collaborating with cybersecurity, infrastructure, service management, stakeholders, vendors, and other technical organizations.
