Stationary Engineer Apprentice


Melwood is seeking a reliable and motivated Stationary Engineer Apprentice to join our Engineering/Facilities team. The selected candidate will work under the direction of experienced Stationary Engineers and maintenance personnel while gaining practical, hands-on experience in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of building mechanical systems.

Hours: M-F 8am -5pm

Pay rate: $22 -30 (Semi-annual raises including)

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Stationary Engineer Apprentice will assist with:
● Monitoring and operating building mechanical systems and equipment.
● Assisting with the operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, air-handling units, pumps, compressors, and generators.
● Performing routine inspections and documenting equipment conditions.
● Assisting with preventative maintenance and scheduled maintenance activities.
● Responding to building maintenance requests and assisting with troubleshooting equipment issues.
● Checking gauges, meters, controls, and other equipment indicators and reporting abnormal readings or conditions.
● Assisting with maintaining proper building temperatures and environmental conditions.
● Performing basic mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks under supervision.
● Maintaining maintenance logs, inspection records, and work orders as required.
● Keeping mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and workspaces clean and organized.
● Following all applicable safety procedures and using tools and equipment appropriately.
● Immediately reporting equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or other concerns to the supervisor.
● Assisting experienced engineers with repairs, adjustments, and other assigned engineering tasks.
● Performing other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
● Interest in stationary engineering, HVAC, mechanical systems, building operations, or facilities maintenance.
● Willingness to learn through hands-on training and instruction.
● Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
● Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and building personnel.
● Dependable, punctual, and willing to take direction.
● Ability to follow established safety procedures and workplace policies.


Training Opportunity:
The apprentice will receive on-the-job training and work alongside experienced engineering personnel to develop knowledge and skills related to building systems, preventative maintenance, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and general facilities operations.
