Visitor Information Assistant
These positions are located on the Mt. Hood National Forest and San Bernardino National Forest. These positions are responsible for monitoring the daily functions of the visitor center to assure optimum operation as well as disseminating recreation information to the public. - Responsible for supervision 20% or less.
- Duties described are at the target grade, GS-07.
- Troubleshoots and resolves any problems associated with the visitor facility, personnel, equipment, or sales.
- Serves as unit collection officer and is responsible for accounting, balancing, reconciling, and accurate record keeping of the visitor center funds.
- Provides visitors with detailed information in the areas of various permits and pass requirements, trip planning, local area information, ecological and wilderness information.
- Coordinates and directs the daily operations for a visitor facility including the handling of daily receipts, sales, and personnel and building/landscape maintenance.
- Ensures the visitor center is maintained in accordance with established standards
Requirements

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as meeting two or more of the following: Serve as an assistant to writers, reporters or photographers of local or national media; Gather information, arranging interviews, travel and tours. Produce graphics, brochures, promotional material and prepare newsletters. Present to community groups such as public schools or social groups on community-related topics such as fire safety, environmental awareness, recreation activities, or litter prevention. Prepare recurring reports on items tracked on a regular basis, such as trends in public information needs. Perform routine, repetitive daily activities for visitor center operations, greeted visitors and replied to inquiries requesting general information about organizational activities, programs and policies. For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting three or more of the following: Serve as an assistant to writers, reporters or photographers of local or national media. Gather information, arranging interviews, travel and tours. Produce graphics, brochures, promotional material and prepare newsletters. Present to community groups such as public schools or social groups on community-related topics such as fire safety, environmental awareness, recreation activities, or litter prevention. Prepare recurring reports on items tracked on a regular basis, such as trends in public information needs. Perform routine, repetitive daily activities for visitor center operations, greet visitors and reply to inquiries requesting general information about organizational activities, programs and policies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
