Plumber

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Plumber with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Buchanan, PR.


  • Performs tasks in connection with the fabrication, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems.
  • Clearing difficult stoppages in drain pipes.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and maintains gas and steam fired kitchen equipment.
  • Installs, repairs, maintains, and/or replaces, hot water supply/return lines.
  • Clears difficult stoppages in drain lines (interior/exterior).
  • Operate one or more motor vehicles including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, etc.

Requirements

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex Plumber duties. I am skilled in performing the full range of plumbing tasks including 1) estimating material requirements such as pipe, fittings, and fixtures; 2) performing of assembling of pipe sections and fittings; 3) inspecting or testing piping after completing repairs. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT - Work involves considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involves working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS - Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, and is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites. Injury may occur from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead.
